Here is a unique, beautifully hand crafted nixie clock, made entirely of natural rock. This is a very limited production piece, with currently only 4 in existence.
Many hours of painstaking labor went into creating the stunning volcanic rock enclosure. Made of natural architectural grade Tuff (pronounced "Toof"). Tuff is formed when a violent volcanic eruption ejects ash, which then settles and over time creates this unique rock. Found within this tuff are other rocks and minerals, among them is Obsidian, which is a natural type of glass, usually black in color, produced from a volcanic eruption that rapidly cools into water. Architectural grade Tuff with many embedded stones, rocks and minerals, such as the type used in this clock, is a rare find.
The clock features Z573M tubes, with a digit height of 13mm, or approximately 1/2". High voltage for the tubes is provided by an efficient DC-DC converter, dangerous line voltage is not fed into the clock. Powered by DC, this clock can be used worldwide with an appropriate DC adapter. The clock also features user selectable 12/24 modes, software corrected crystal, and selectable digit cycling, which is used to prevent cathod poisioning of unused digits. A high power capacitor keeps time for +12 hours in case of a power outage.
